Camp Of Champions 2009 with Fault Line TV

Posted: Sep 19, 2009

My name is Eric. As some of you may know, I make movies. I am the Director and Producer at Fault Line TV which you see here on Pinkbike.com. Recently I was contracted to head up to the Whistler Mountain Bike Park for a month, and do some shooting with The Camp Of Champions (COC).

Check out my month in Whistler inside,

Now before I get too far into this article I just want to clear one thing up. I am not getting paid by COC to write this, nor has it been talked about, suggested or in any way shape or form, been planned. I am writing this because I would like to share my honest experience about my month away from home to attend this camp. Now to the rest...

The boys chillin' in the foam pit while a camper jumps in!

I cannot stress enough how much fun this experience was for me. Meeting new people, riding bikes and filming every day, getting to hang out with some super chill campers that I am still connected with on Facebook/Pinkbike, the list goes on. I really can’t explain. I had so much to tell my friends when I got back, and so many memories to look back upon. I find myself counting down the days to next year.

The overall atmosphere as you step in the door at COC was what got me at first, not one person is having a bad time. Everyone is smiling, laughing, joking and just overall stoked to be there. There’s no bad attitudes, and nobody gets left out.

You arrive off the bus from Vancouver and check in at the office. After that they give you your room key, a whole whack of stickers and info about where you can get % off food, clothing, parts, or anything else. You head up to your room to unpack your things and meet your new roommates. Usually they're bikers, in some cases you’ll be paired up with snowboarders or skiers, but that’s ok, they're cool too! Now depending on what time of day you got there, you can opt to go to bed, or jump on the COC bus with a 600-watt sound system blasting music, and head down to the village to check it all out.

Coach " Cho Cho " You can check out his video here!

The next morning you wake up for your first day of riding. You show up at the bike room to grab your custom tuned ride, meet the coaches, other campers, photo/video staff and head down to breakfast. You get to ride on the latest bikes, all current, from that year. I even remember two of the bikes only got ridden twice over the whole month! So it’s like riding a brand new bike every day.

After you eat your included breakfast, you have nothing else to do other than...well ride! What else is there to do, that’s what you came to do. Not to mention, mostly every run your coach coordinates a spot for you to be photographed and videotaped for Pinkbike and the camp site. That’s also where you see me and Mike the photographer takes over a hundred photos each day, and I usually shot about 30 minutes ( 14GB ) of video each day.

Repeat this everyday for as many days as you're signed up for, plus throw in some free stuff, like Oakley gear, Straitline Components, or a good chance at winning one of 2 frames per week and you have The Camp Of Champions.

So if you can afford it and you’re not from the Whistler area, definitely check it out. One of the best things I’ve done with my summers, ever.

Send me an e-mail if you have any questions about anything! eric@faultline.tv

"or you could just get a job?"

Not many good jobs or places that will actually give you a job under the age of 16.

i have to buy everything, if those rich kids did, they'd be lucky to figure out how to buy a decent bike...

while there out getting everything paid for them and having fun, i'm working, and i know that someday, i'm going to be able to afford like multiple 10,000 dollar bikes... and they'll work in mcdonalds

Man.. so what? some people have it better off than others.. work your ass off and get what you want. I know my first bike wasnt anything special. Got it from canadian tire... and now look at me, after 7 or 8 years of busting my balls and going through the ranks of having bike after bike and slowly upgrading with my minimum wage job I ride a session 88. Sure it might take time... but a bike you worked your ass off for is better than one bought for you. Do what you gotta do, and life will come around equal.

WOW! Thanks Eric! I knew you had fun and all, but thanks, next year is going to be even better. Wait till you hear who we've added as coaches and as sponsors for next year. It's crazy.

That "guy with the beard" is Jeff, COC's ride along mechanic. One of the funniest guys you'll ever meet.

can't believe all you whiners [ as in boo hoo... not 'winners' ] are so full of tude and bs...get a life and just RIDE, and then maybe you too will have rich kids karma...like who gives a f..., just mind your own business, and get a job working with parapalegics so you can see just how lucky you are, and boring and sissyfied your bitch gossiping is...if that doesn't work take a huck of the GLC drop on a BMX and then the rest of us will be able to ride whistler without listening to the verbal vomit you guys think is so coooool...in the meantime start wearing a brain bucket so you can hang on to the 0.0% grey matter left!
